3WZ Medical Minute Transcript
Steve Williams: We’re visiting with Camille Brown, a licensed aesthetician for Mount Nittany Physician Group. She’s here today to talk about winter skin. Camille, thanks for joining us.

Camille Brown: Thank you for having me.

Steve Williams: Camille, how does the winter weather affect our skin?

Camille Brown: The winter weather affects our skin by robbing it of its oil and water, leading to dryness, redness and itchiness.

Steve Williams: What should you avoid during the winter to protect your skin?

Camille Brown: You should avoid hot water; use warm water instead. Take shorter showers. Make sure you’re moisturizing your skin after you shower. Use a moisturizer for your skin type, and use cleansers that are gentle, so you do not strip your skin of its oil and water. Remember, healthy skin has a balance of water and oil.

Steve Williams: Do you have any tips, Camille, to help keep skin healthy and glowing during the winter months?

Camille Brown: Yes, cleanse twice a day with a gentle cleanser. Moisturize after each cleansing with the appropriate moisturizer for your skin type. Exfoliate once weekly to remove dead skin cells. This will help give a better penetration of moisturizer on the skin. Apply sunscreen to protect the skin from harmful UV rays. Sunscreen is not only for summer – it is to be used all year round to prevent premature aging of the skin. Harmful rays also reflect off snow. Use a humidifier in the home. This can add some moisture to the air and will help to hydrate the skin. When you’re outdoors, remember to bundle up to protect the skin from the cold air.

Steve Williams: What services does the Mount Nittany Reconstructive & Cosmetic Surgery office provide to community members to treat winter skin?

Camille Brown: We offer a variety of treatments to maintain the health of your skin and your skin concerns, including facials, microdermabrasions, dermaplaning, chemical peels, advanced therapies to treat rosacea, acne, eczema, psoriasis, chemotherapy support, and more. We offer consultations to treat patients’ concerns and goals.

Steve Williams: Where can community members get more information about the skin care services at Mount Nittany Reconstructive & Cosmetic Surgery?

Camille Brown: Community members can visit our website at cosmetic.mountnittany.org, or they can call us at 814.231.7878.

Camille Brown: Thank you very much for having me.
