"Announcer: The 3WZ Medical Minute is brought to you by Mount Nittany Medical Center – Mount Nittany Life Forward. We’re with Tom Stoessel, senior vice president of business development at Mount Nittany Medical Center and the Mount Nittany Physician Group. Tom, thanks for joining us today!

Tom Stoessel: Thank you!

Announcer: Tom, tell me a little bit about the Mount Nittany Physician Group.

Tom Stoessel: We started the group approximately two years ago, and we’ve grown from five employed physicians to 64, as of January of this year. We’ve now assembled a complete multi-specialty practice, complete with a variety of subspecialties, as well as considerable primary care services.

Announcer: Now, the bulk of these physicians and staff are coming from the CMSA. Is that correct?

Tom Stoessel: That’s correct. There were 51 physicians from CMSA who joined our group as of January 1st of this year. And there are several other practices – State College Neurological Associates, the Guillard Medical Group, both on University Drive, and all the way back to 2008, we brought the Penns Valley Area Family Medicine Group on board.

Announcer: Physicians may be coming to the area. Are you kind of recruiting now a little bit – looking for good doctors – and why would they want to join a group like this?

Tom Stoessel: Thank you for that question! This is clearly the first step that we are taking, building a foundation for ourselves to be able to continue to invest and bring more physicians to the area, but this is absolutely a growth model. We intend to do heavy recruitment starting out with a focus on adult primary care and really working to improve access points for patients in the area and be able to fill in some of the gaps that we currently have.

Announcer: All right, now I know one of the big questions out there is going to be how is this going to affect my access to my physician if my physician was in the CSMA? How is this going to affect that? Is that going to have any effect at all?

Tom Stoessel: It will only have an effect for the positive. You should still have access seamlessly to the same physician that you have built a relationship with over time. These physicians are excited to be on board and looking for growth in the future. We are continuing to accept all the same insurance programs. We’ll be looking for any gaps that might exist and filling those gaps. So all around, this is a complete improvement plan and becoming even more accessible and seamless for our patients is really the whole goal.

Announcer: How will the significant expansion of Mount Nittany’s Physician Group affect health care for the region? I would think it would make it smoother!

Tom Stoessel: That’s true. We’re going to pull our information systems together between the hospital, as well as the physician practices, to create a more seamless experience for the patients. The No. 1 idea here is access – how to understand where points of access need to be improved and to be able to fill those gaps?

Announcer: Now you mentioned a couple of other locations – Boalsburg, Penns Valley. Where can folks get a complete list of their physicians and locations? Where can they find that?

Tom Stoessel: The easiest place to find that is through our website www.mountnittany.org/physiciangroup, or we’ll be posting a series of ads in the Centre Daily Times and other publications in the community, with a complete listing of phone numbers, addresses and specialties and subspecialties that are available.

Announcer: And the name is just going to be the Mount Nittany Physician Group. Is that correct?

Tom Stoessel: That is correct!

Announcer: Okay I just want to kind of get everyone used to that. So, Tom, is there anything else you want to add here today?

Tom Stoessel: No, I think that’s it for me!

Announcer: Tom Stoessel, senior vice president business development for the Mount Nittany Physician Group. Thanks very much for joining us today!

Tom Stoessel: Thank you!
